Right, people most of you are aware of most of the elements of BF3, but here is a guide to help the new people that have may only just recently purchased their copy.
CLASSES/......
There are four classes to choose from, each with their unique way of playing the game. It's a good idea to familiarise yourself with all four; I know every one will wanna run with what they feel most at ease with, but situations may call for you to switch to the Engineer to engage armour, or Support to keep your guys stocked in ammo. I am going to try and explain as quickly as possible without skipping too many corners, lol
ASSAULT/.......
The Assault class is the core attacker; you'll specialize in medium to long range assault rifles. When you first use this class, your first gadget is the medic pack. This makes you extremely valuable to your team, as quite a few of the game modes use a "ticket" system whereas a new spawn into the game means one ticket taken off your team. This means that a teammate's (or "blue dot's") death costs the whole team, so if you see a team member one bullet away from Jesus PRESS THE LEFT DPAD BUTTON AND THEN R1 to plonk a medic box next to him to allow healing. This is a good way to keep a steady income of points, plus you have just saved your team a ticket. The second gadget you will unlock is the defib pads; just like the medic kit this makes you extremely valuable to your team. Why? That team member that just ran out in front of that tank's MG and is now laying on his back with a "lightning" symbol above him is down there because he had a realisation that it may have been a bad idea to do that, but you have the ability to get his ass up of the floor and back into the fight! To do this press the RIGHT DPAD BUTTON THEN PRESS R1 WHILE STANDING OVER AND LOOKING AT THE PLAYER. That is the general role of this class on the Battlefield. As for the weapons this class uses, here's a general idea: a lot of the assault rifles share the characteristics of their real-life counterparts such as fire rate, firing modes, and recoil and long range accuracy. Let's take the AK series: most of them have a full-auto or semi-auto mode; the full-auto mode is good for short and medium ranges as the semi auto is more suited for longer range targets. However, some new models of the AK have a burst fire mode that is useful at all distances. It is a common fact that the AK series has the highest recoil out of the assault rifle series but packs a better punch; the M series of weapons have the same full burst and semi setup, but with less recoil at the cost of damage
ENGINEER/......
The Engineer class is about anti-armour and supporting your team's armoured vehicles. So you've jumped into a game as this class and its your first time? No worries! We will have you popping tanks like bad spots! Your first gadget for this class is the RPG-7 or SMAW (depending on the side your on, US or Russians), unguided rocket-propelled grenades; these are your standard weapons against vehicles. They are tricky to aim at distance, but it's quick to pick up. To select your anti-vehicle weapon, PRESS LEFT ON THE DPAD AND USE L1 TO AIM AND R1 TO FIRE - ALSO TAKE NOTE THE ORDINANCE NEEDS A CERTAIN DISTANCE TO ARM FOR FULL EFFECT. The second gadget you start with is the blow torch; this is used to repair your team's vehicles and damage enemies' vehicles (and enemies themselves!). To use this, PRESS RIGHT DPAD BUTTON AND PRESS R1 WHILE YOUR BLOWTORCH IS AIMED AT AND TOUCHING YOUR INTENDED TARGET. The next gadget you will unlock is the anti-air missile. Remember, people! The threat isn't just from the ground; death can come from the sky as well! Jets and helicopters can make your team's lives a misery, but not any more. This gadget allows you to keep these pesky flies away from your team; once unlocked, select it from your customise section and follow the same buttons as your anti-vehicle launcher, but you'll need to keep the jet or helicopter in your sights to lock onto the target first. You will also unlock anti-tank mines which, if put in the right spot, can be left till some unfortunate tank trips on them. Follow the same buttons as the blowtorch. Now, on to your guns: the engineer weapons favour short to medium range and are best used in small bursts. There's no general series of guns; you have a mixture of weapons from all over the world.
SUPPORT/.....
Wanna light mofos up with a big gun? Then the Support class is for you. This class focuses on laying down large amounts of fire while supplying your team with ammo so they can do the same. The first gadget you have is the ammo crate; this, as you can guess, refills your team's ammuntion. To use it, PRESS LEFT ON THE DPAD AND PRESS R1 TO DEPLOY. The next gadget you will unlock is the C4; this is very useful if used correctly. If a enemy tank is approaching, hide until you can get close enough to attach it to the tank, run away and watch the fireworks! To use the C4 PRESS THE RIGHT DPAD THEN USE L1 TO DEPLOY THE C4 AND R1 TO DETONATE. The guns this class uses are light machine guns with high fire rate but obvious accuracy problems unless you can use a bipod, so if you can get yourself set up in a nice position with your bipod out and ammo crate next to you, wait for any poor suckers who step out in front of you. You'll see that the Support class has a few more goodies to use, but by that time you will be able to work out their uses by yourself.
RECON/.....
You: 'I'M A SNIPER! I'M A SNIPER!" Me: (SLAP ROUND THE FACE) 'No, you're a Recon class, goddamit!" Your job is to let us know what the hell is going on around us! When you climb to the highest part of the map, it is nice to set up a deck chair and shoot away but, my friend, you wont contribute anything to the team. The Recon class specializes in SPOTTING, SPOTTING, AND MORE GODDAM SPOTTING! Your entire set of equipment is based on this sole purpose; yes, you get big snipers rifles to take out targets at long range, but unless you've come to terms with the game's physics, then it's best to spot 'em for closer units. The first gadget you'll have as the Recon class is the spawn beacon which allows your squad to spawn at that position. To use this, PRESS LEFT ON THE DPAD AND R1 TO DEPLOY. And that is basically it; once you have got these basics understood, you'll pick the rest up quickly. Don't ever be afraid of posting a query, doesn't matter how silly you might think it is, we're all here to help make a better experience!
IMPORTANT!! AS I SAID ABOUT SPOTTING IN THE RECON CLASS, ALL CLASSES HAVE THE ABILITY TO SPOT FOR YOUR TEAM! YOU NEED TO DRILL THIS INTO YOUR HEAD AND PRACTISE FINGER YOGA TO MAKE YOUR FINGER REACH THE SELECT BUTTON BECAUSE IF YOU DON'T, THE BAD GUYS DO NOT APPEAR ON YOUR TEAM'S RADAR AND, AS YOU WILL BE AWARE, THE LEVELS ARE CRAMMED WITH BUILDINGS AND PLACES TO HIDE! SPOT BEFORE YOU ENGAGE BECAUSE IF YOU MISS, AND HE GETS AWAY, YOU'RE GONNA HAVE A HARD TIME TRACKING HIM!!
Practise these basics, have fun and we will see you on the Battlefield!
